TBF-QM-47 Queen Mary’s County of Cornwall Ruby Bracelet

47. Queen Mary’s County of Cornwall Ruby Bracelet

In 1893, the County of Cornwall presented Queen Mary with this ruby and diamond bracelet as a wedding present, as can be seen in the list of wedding gifts in The Times, which listed it thusly, “from Cornwall a diamond and ruby bracelet”.[1] However, Field has previously incorrectly stated that this was a wedding gift from The Duke of York.[2]

It is revealed that this bracelet contains “a detachable centrepiece in the shape of a rose”,[3] which could be worn as both a pendant,[4] and as a brooch, which Queen Mary wore on occasion as a brooch attached to her collar.[5] It was given by Queen Mary to The Queen in 1947 as a wedding present, and is described in the official list of wedding gifts as “a bracelet, ruby and diamond Rose centre, with ruby and diamond bands”;[6 ]The Queen has since worn it occasionally.[7]
