TBF-QM-14 Queen Mary’s Iveagh Tiara

14. Queen Mary’s Iveagh Tiara

This tiara is formed from a band of diamond scrolls and foliage, in the kokoshnik style, and it was a wedding present to Queen Mary in 1893 from Lord and Lady Iveagh.[1]

It is revealed in a letter that Queen Mary wrote to her mother, whilst staying with Queen Victoria at Osborne House shortly after her wedding, that she wore the “Iveagh’s tiara” to dinner on the first evening.[2]

It was bequeathed to the Duchess of Gloucester, upon Queen Mary’s death, in 1953.[3]
