QEQM-G10 The Greville Emerald Brooch

QEQM-G10 The Greville Emerald Brooch

The origins of this large brooch are unclear; although it is presumed to be part of the large bequest of jewels that Queen Elizabeth received from Mrs. Greville. It is likely that this brooch is one of the “two large emerald and diamond brooches” that Field mentions.

This brooch is set with a central square emerald stone, surrounded by a frame of small brilliants, the whole cluster surrounded by diamond set fleur-de-lys motifs; with a chain of brilliants suspended a pear-shaped diamond drop, was worn often by Queen Elizabeth, most notably to her 100th Birthday celebrations at Horse Guards Parade in 2000.

Queen Elizabeth wore this brooch, or an identical one, set with a central square-cut amethyst stone, to the christening of Prince Harry in 1984.

It is likely that this brooch was inherited by The Queen, following Queen Elizabeth’s death in 2002, who has since loaned it to the Duchess of Cornwall.

Queen Elizabeth (QEQM) also either wore this brooch, or an identical one, set with a central square-cut amethyst stone, to the christening of Prince Harry in 1984.
