TBF-QA-6 Queen Alexandra's Gold Shamrock Brooch

6.  Queen Alexandra’s Gold Shamrock Brooch

The origins of this brooch are unclear; however it is likely that it was presented to Queen Alexandra by The Irish Guards, as she was the first royal to present shamrocks to the newly formed regiment on St. Patrick’s Day in 1901.[1]

This brooch was made by Cartier, and it is made of gold, in the shape of a shamrock, with a single emerald set in the centre.[2]

This brooch was later worn by Queen Elizabeth, and is now worn by various royal ladies when conducting engagements with a connection to the Irish Guards, such as the Duchess of Cambridge in 2012.
