TBF-QEII-61 The Queen’s Sheikh Rashid of Dubai Sapphire Demi-Parure

61. The Queen’s Sheikh Rashid of Dubai Sapphire Demi-Parure

This sapphire and diamond demi-parure was made by Asprey, and originally consisted of a necklace, earrings and a ring and was presented to The Queen by Sheikh Rashid of Dubai, during The Queen's visit to the country as part of her tour of the Gulf States in 1979.[1]

The original demi-parure can be seen illustrated in Menkes, and the necklace consists of large sapphires mounted in diamond-set loops.[2]

This demi-parure was later altered by The Queen, who shortened the necklace by two sapphires, converting these into earrings and the original earrings and the ring were mounted into a three-stone bracelet to be worn en suite with the necklace.

The Queen wore this demi-parure in this form during her visit to Canada in 2005 when an official photographic portrait was taken.
