48. The Queen’s Gold Sunflower Brooch
This brooch is described by Field as “a large frosted-gold sunflower with a diamond cluster centre and a diamond set on each of its twenty-one petals”.[1] This brooch, made from 18ct gold, can be seen illustrated in Gere and Culme,[2] and it was acquired by The Queen from Garrard in the early years of her reign.[3]
The Queen wears this brooch frequently, in recent years. Its most notable appearance was the Balcony appearance as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations in 2002.[4]
