QEII-15 The Queen’s Jardinière Brooch

This message #1 was written by Boffer pre-2013.

15. The Queen’s Jardinière Brooch

This brooch, which Gere describes as “a platinum and diamond basket filled with a bouquet in carved emeralds, cabochon rubies and clusters of sapphires”, was purchased by Queen Elizabeth from Garrard in 1938; it was originally supplied as the centrepiece of a pearl necklace.[1]

Field misattributes this brooch to Cartier; however she does provide an illustration of the piece and asserts that it was given to The Queen, whilst still Princess Elizabeth in 1941.[2]

The Queen was pictured wearing it on a handful of occasions during her youth, although it hasn't been worn in decades.[3]
