TBF-QM-82 Queen Mary’s Small Diamond Collar

82. Queen Mary’s Small Diamond Collar

The origins of this small diamond collar are unclear. Set with diamonds in a geometric pattern, in the Art-Deco style, it can be seen being worn by Queen Mary in Oswald Birley’s 1934 portrait,[1] and in a photographic sitting; however, in his publication, Roberts incorrectly identifies this collar in these photographs as the collar made from ‘Queen Mary’s Chain Link Bracelets’.[2]

Field argues that this collar was inherited by Queen Elizabeth in 1953, and was subsequently remodelled into a bracelet,[3] which she was photographed wearing in 1975.[4]
