74. The Queen’s Jamaican Doctor Bird Brooch
This brooch was made by the jewellers C. Garth Sanguinetti and Fred Lusan III of Sanger Studios, in the form of “the national Doctor Bird, a species of hummingbird found only in Jamaica which is noted for its distinctive tail streamers”.
This brooch is made from black Jamaican granite and green Jamaican marble, set in platinum, white gold and silver, with diamonds, sapphires and rubies.
It was presented to The Queen, as a gift to mark her Golden Jubilee in 2002, during her official visit to Jamaica in the same year.[1]
The Queen has never been pictured wearing this brooch publicly.
