QEII-44 The Queen’s BOAC Brooch

This message #1 was written by Boffer pre-2013.
44. The Queen’s BOAC Brooch

This brooch was presented to The Queen, when still Princess Elizabeth, by the British Overseas Airways Corporation when she launched the airliner Elizabeth of England.[1]

The brooch is of the BOAC emblem, consisting of diamond-set flared wings, accentuated with sapphire baguette-cut stones.[2]

The Queen wore this brooch occasionally, when flying by BOAC from London Airport. However it has not been seen since the early years of her reign.[3]

44. The Queen's BOAC Brooch

Princess Elizabeth was the Master of the Guild of Airline Pilots at the time of the launching and the brooch was particularly appropriate to commemorate her first airplane launch.[1]
