Sovereign's Sceptre with Cross

Link to the Royal Collection. This sceptre represents the temporal power of the sovereign.

According to Crown Jewels 1998 its interior was a wooden staff which was replaced during work in 1928, work which was probably necessitated by the weight of Cullinan I, which put the rod at risk of buckling.
